PLAYGROUND ALERT:
Have your child wash his hands after being on wooden playground equipment.
According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, scientists found that regular exposure to wood treated with arsenic (which includes almost all playground equipment now in use) may slightly increase a child’s lifetime risk of lung or bladder cancer. The contaminant can’t be absorbed through the skin but may enter the body via hand–to–mouth contact. |
